Electric Department

Local Electric Department changing street light bulbTestville Utilities maintains an electric distribution system that services over X,XXX customers in the City of Testville and the Townships of Genericville, Commontown, and Villageburg. The purpose of this distribution system is "step down" the 69,000 volt power that is delivered to our substations via cross-state transmission lines from our power supplier, providing electricity to your home or business at the appropriate safe voltage.

Our electric utility staff is responsible for maintaining three substations with current capacity of over 98 megawatts and more than 281 miles of overhead and underground conductor. Over 3,300 transformers regulate the voltage measured by 9,400 meters used by our customers.

Meter Reading & Billing

Gone are the days when a utility employee would walk to each and every meter to ‘read the meter’. Testville Utilities crew members collect usage data from your electric meter with an automatic meter reading (AMR) device. Our data collection devices read your meter from a distance and store that information in a format that is then downloaded into our billing software to help produce your monthly billing statement.

In some cases or during certain times of year when we are not able to get close enough to your meter, our data collection devices are not able to communicate with your meter to deliver consumption data. In that event, we provide you with an estimated billing statement. That estimate is based on your normal usage history for that time of year. Any difference between the amount actually used and the estimated amount billed is corrected automatically when the next regular meter reading is obtained.  Ultimately, you pay only for the amount of energy actually used.
